The two failures detection cannot reverse
A detection service reduces how often ransomware detonates, and on Windows the agent can roll an endpoint back to its pre-incident state. Both are real. Neither addresses the two events that put organizations out of business anyway.
- Deletion by an authorized hand. A departing administrator, a mistaken bulk operation, a script that ran against production. Nothing about that is anomalous behavior, because it is not anomalous. It is a permitted action, correctly performed, with a terrible outcome.
- Platform-side loss. Microsoft and Google run your tenant. They do not carry your retention obligations, and their native recycle bins are measured in days. A mailbox purged past that window is not recoverable by escalating to the vendor.
This family exists because those are custody problems, not detection problems.
Choosing between the four endpoint and server lines
Four lines cover machines, and they differ by what they can put back rather than by how much they cost.
- File and Folder returns documents, not computers. Two passes a day, 28 days of versions, Windows only, and the lowest rate in the family. Correct for field workstations where the machine is replaceable and the work on it is not.
- Workstation returns the machine: operating system, applications, settings, and data, with bare-metal recovery on Windows and 500GB of pooled storage. Correct for the systems whose rebuild would cost you a day.
- Server and Virtual Server add database-aware protection for SQL, Oracle, MySQL, Exchange, and SharePoint, with 2000GB pooled and bare-metal recovery. Pick by what the workload runs on rather than by what it is called.
Storage is pooled across the estate rather than capped per machine, so a laptop holding very little subsidizes the one holding rather a lot.
An untested backup is a hypothesis
Every organization that lost data to a failed restore owned a backup product on the day it happened. The job had been green for months. Nobody had ever asked it to actually give anything back.
Recovery Testing performs the restore for you, weekly or monthly, and issues paperwork showing that it worked. Two audiences want that artifact. Your auditors and your insurer want evidence that the control is real rather than purchased. And you want a measured recovery time rather than an estimate, because the difference between the two is discovered at the worst possible moment.
The four you are most likely to have skipped
Entra ID, Microsoft 365, QuickBooks Online, and Google Workspace are the lines organizations assume the vendor has already covered. They are not, and each fails differently.
- Microsoft 365. Exchange and SharePoint, OneDrive and Teams. Mail is kept for seven years against a native window measured in weeks. Shared mailboxes carry no charge, and storage pools at 1TB per user.
- Google Workspace. Mail captured twelve times a day, drives three times, contacts and calendars daily, with granular restore that finds a single message rather than making you take back an entire mailbox.
- QuickBooks Online. Intuit offers no guarantee that your books can be brought back. This line turns a botched import or a deleted quarter into a single click, priced against each company file.
- Entra ID. Configuration history with unlimited retention against Microsoft's 30-day limit, real-time change monitoring, and last-known-good values per attribute. When a directory change breaks access for everyone at once, this is what tells you what changed and puts it back.
Where these modules stop
Retention and storage are per line and stated above; read them against your obligations rather than assuming a longer number applies. The opening pass on any machine line is necessarily large, since its job is to copy the whole of what you selected, and it wants the machine left switched on while it works. File and Folder does not rebuild a computer. Backup does not detect an intruder, and no line here is monitored by the SOC.
One caution that costs people real data: cancelling a line starts a deletion clock on our platform vendors' deprovisioning schedule. Pull back whatever you still need before cancelling, or tell us and the line will stay readable until you are done.
